Teachers Contract Update

District 202 and the Association of Plainfield Teachers are happy to announce that APT membership today ratified the tentative agreement presented to membership on October 25, 2017.

Fifty-eight percent of APT members approved the new agreement

The Board of Education is expected to vote on the tentative agreement at its November 6, 2017 regular meeting. Changes to the pay scale are retroactive to July 1, 2017. The new contract runs through June 30, 2022.

Additional contract details will be released after final ratification by the Board of Education.

The APT this year represents about 1,900 classroom teachers and other certified staff.

“This contract successfully addresses many of the needs of our membership including taking important steps to grow our staff with teachers who will make District 202 their destination,” said APT President Dawn Bullock.

“We appreciate the Board’s willingness to strengthen District 202’s commitment to our membership,” she said

“On behalf of the Board of Education, we thank the APT membership and its leaders for their dedication to the process of negotiations and to providing the best possible service to our students and families,” said District 202 Board of Education President Greg Nichols.

“District 202 has some of the best educators in the business and we value their hard work,” Nichols said.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEW AGREEMENT:

  • Is for five years (through June 30, 2022)
  • Provides AVERAGE raises of
    • Year 1 – 5.56%
    • Year 2 – 3.25%
    • Year 3 – 3.25% to 4.25% (floor to ceiling)
    • Year 4 – 3.25% to 4.25% (floor to ceiling)
    • Year 5 – 3.25% to 4.25% (floor to ceiling)
  • Adds money to the salary schedule every year
  • Includes expanded retirement incentive to reward longevity
  • Maintains traditional “lane/step” salary structure
  • Bases future increases to the base of the salary schedule on CPI
  • Re-indexes salary schedule for greater equity throughout membership

Sad News

We received sad news this morning. PASS’s former 1st Vice President passed away on Monday. Following is the obituary from the Herald News.

Debra Jo Reuther

Born: September 4, 1955

Died: October 30, 2017

Debra Jo (Nadratowski) Reuther, age 62, of Joliet, IL, passed away on October 30, 2017. She was born on September 4, 1955 in Oceanside, CA to James and Joan (Gormley) Nadratowski.

She is survived by her husband, James Reuther of Joliet, IL; daughter, Rachel (Arbin) Katwal M.D. of Fargo, ND; mother, Joan Nadratowski of Chesterton, IN; sisters, Jamie (Karl) Dagostaro and Cheryl (John) Gillikin both of Chesterton, IN; brothers, John (Susan) Nadratowski, Jim (Denise) Nadratowski Jr. and Pat (Linda) Nadratowski all of Chesterton, IN; 22 nieces and nephews; 13 great nieces and nephews; and many cousins and close friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, James Nadratowski Sr.

Debbie retired as a Registrar from School District 202 in Plainfield, IL and also served as the Vice President of the Workers Union. She was raised in Chesterton, IN and graduated from Chesterton High School in 1974. Debbie loved to vacation and her favorite place would always be Myrtle Beach, S.C. with her daughter, Rachel.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 12:30 pm at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304 with Father Jon Plavcan officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 am until the time of service at 12:30 pm. Cremation services will be provided by Heritage Crematory, Portage, IN.

Open Enrollment Ends

  DO NOT forget that OPEN ENROLLMENT ends this Friday. If you haven’t enrolled yet don’t forget to do so by then. Just go to the employee portal and sign in. Look for the Benefits Enrollment link at the top of the page and follow the instructions to complete. All members must complete this by Friday whether you are changing elections or not. As of today the district let us know there are still 400 eligible PASS employees who have not completed enrollment.

2018 HSA Enrollment

  For those of you who have opted for the HSA insurance option please remember according to our contract to qualify for the districts HSA contribution you must complete an annual preventative exam with your doctor between the dates of July 1, 2017 to December 1, 2017. Please print the form below for you and your doctor to fill out and return to the Benefits Department at the Administration Building by December 1st 2017.
